Is Travel Nursing For You?

Do you meet the minimum requirements to become a travel nurse? Recent clinical experience of one year, previous employers providing good references, current nursing license, BCLS card, physical and proof of vaccinations are required.
The hourly rate of pay is typically higher than a fulltime permanent staff member at the same hospital. Most travel companies offer signup and completion bonuses in specialties of high demand. Critical care, operating room, dialysis and labor and delivery among others are included.
When you are considering travel nursing there are several questions you should ask yourself. Am I ready for the challenge of a new job in a new place? Do I want a job at a large teaching hospital or one using innovative technologies? Is the weather, location, higher rates of pay, availability of overtime or bonuses my top priority?
Unlike most permanent jobs you will probably have job protection. If you have shifts cancelled you will be paid anyway. Benefits include free health, dental, life, worker’s compensation, malpractice, and professional travel nursing liability insurance. You also get free continuing education and are immediately eligible for a 401K retirement plan.
Filing an application with a specific company does not require you to work for them. The travel nursing companies determine if you qualify for travel nursing. They assign you to a recruiter who presents you with positions that are available. It is up to you to decide, if the assignment and benefits offered are a good match for you. Positions are usually filled one to two months ahead of the start date. The interview is held by phone with whoever from the hospital is responsible for hiring. If the facility makes an offer it is made directly to the travel nursing company. They will then send you an agreement with all the details including start and end dates, shift, benefits, required documentation and orientation.
Are you traveling solo or with the whole family? The travel nursing company will find you accommodations that will meet your needs. Travel nursing looks great on any resume. It shows future employers that your are versatile, independent, and competent. Travel nursing will usually put you ahead financially. Moving cost are usually reimbursed and the fully furnished apartment is free. If utilities are not included you will get a utility allowance. You will have more disposable income. Do you save it or spend it making memories?
Once you have accepted and completed an assignment what’s next. One choice is to request an extension on your current assignment. The facility loves this option because they don’t have to train a new person. A second choice is to accept a new assignment at a new location. If you liked it so well you never want to leave your third choice is to take a permanent position at the facility. Lastly temporarily or permanently stop traveling and return home. All the control remains yours are you ready for a career in travel nursing?

Which Malpractice Insurance/Professional Liability Insurance for Registered Nurse (RN) is the best?

There are several Malpractice Insurances/Professional Liability Insurances. Can anybody, who really knows well, tell which one is the best? (Especially in the state of New York)
Thanks.

There is not a lot of difference among the carriers. That said, the gulf is quite wide between the best and the worst.
